Dr. Gid H. Smith, Board Member, Emeritus

GID H. SMITH joined the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis as president in 1989. During each year of Gid’s leadership, the Community Foundation was ranked among our nation’s top 50 community foundations in total assets, gifts and grants. He was elected President Emeritus in September of 2006 and Honorary Trustee in May of 2007. He was a member of the first Community Foundations Leadership Team of the Council on Foundations and served as Chair of the Community Foundations Committee of the Southeastern Council of Foundations. He was also the first Chair of the board of directors of Community Foundation of America, a national organization dedicated to helping community foundations. Prior to joining the Community Foundation, Gid was executive director of the Metropolitan Inter-Faith Association (MIFA), in Memphis for seventeen years. He holds a Master’s degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and a Bachelor’s degree from Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee.
